§ 02 — FAQ

FAQ

Is TheCorporation open source?

Yes. The CLI, MCP server, API, and agent runtime are all open source. Inspect every line of code. Self-host on your own infrastructure. Run unlimited corporations. No vendor lock-in. The code is the product.

Is the Open Source plan really free?

Yes. Install the CLI, bring your own LLM API key, and run unlimited corporations at no cost. Your corporate data lives in a git repo on your machine. You pay your LLM provider directly for the tokens consumed. No platform fee, no per-entity fee, no markup.

Who owns my data?

You do. Your corporation is a git repo. On the free plan, it lives on your machine. On Cloud, you can git clone your entire corporate history at any time. There is no export process. There is git clone.

What is the difference between self-host and Cloud?

Same codebase. Different infrastructure. Self-hosted means you run the server, store the git repo, and manage your own agents. Cloud means we host the repo, run compliance agents on your behalf, handle filing automation, and provide hosted human pages. Both use identical open-source code.

Can I move between self-host and Cloud?

Yes. It's git. To move to Cloud: git remote add cloud <url> && git push cloud main. To leave Cloud: git clone and self-host. Portability is not a feature we built. It's a property of the medium.

What filings does Cloud handle?

Annual reports, franchise tax filings, BOI reports, and compliance deadline monitoring. Agents scan your obligations continuously, prepare filings when they come due, and submit them on your behalf. You review and approve.

How does the Registered Agent add-on work?

A licensed registered agent provides a registered address in your state of incorporation. Legal mail is received, scanned, and committed to your repo. Works with both plans.

Can I migrate from Carta, Stripe Atlas, or Bizee?

Yes. TheCorporation imports entity data, cap table records, and stakeholder information. Once imported, everything lives in your git repo — version-controlled, portable, and yours.
